Bio

Junkyung Kay joined EOL in 2019. He designed and conducted Observation System Simulation Experiments (OSSEs) to assess the value of MicroPulse Differential absorption lidar (MPD) water vapor profiling observations. Currently, Junkyung is working on the assimilation of the lower tropospheric profiles, including MPD, Atmospheric Emitted Radiance Interferometers (AERI), Doppler wind lidar, and Uncrewed Aircraft System (UAS) to improve short-term convective weather prediction skills. He has been involved in the Lower Troposphere Observing System (LOTOS) effort to conduct OSSEs with MPD and other sensors that are planned to be part of the LOTOS suite.

Junkyung grew up in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. He received a B.S. and Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from Yonsei University, South Korea. Before joining EOL, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oklahoma.
